About This Event

Community Homestay Network represented Nepal as an international delegate at Kerala's Onam Tourism Week Celebrations 2025, held in Thiruvananthapuram from 3 to 9 September. As part of an initiative to showcase Onam as a global cultural experience, tourists from ten countries — including the UK, France, Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Malaysia, Romania, and South Korea — were specially invited to be part of the festivities, with special seating arrangements and a traditional Onam Sadhya feast provided to the visiting delegates.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan formally inaugurated the celebrations at Kanakakunnu Palace, marking the start of a week-long festival across 33 venues in the capital city, featuring cultural programs with nearly 10,000 artists. A major highlight was a drone light show held over three nights above the Chandrasekharan Nair and University stadiums, featuring around 1,000 drones depicting Kerala's cultural heritage and history. The week of festivities concluded on 9 September with a grand pageantry procession.

Attending as one of the invited international delegates gave Community Homestay Network the opportunity to experience Kerala's Onam celebrations firsthand — immersing in the state's traditional art forms, the communal Onam Sadhya feast, and the vibrant cultural pageantry — while representing Nepal on a global platform built around cultural tourism and community celebration. The visit reflected CHN's ongoing commitment to learning from and connecting with destinations around the world that place culture and community at the center of the tourism experience.
