The Tharu & Sonaha Community Homestay offers an authentic cultural immersion experience in a tranquil rural setting near the Karnali River. The homestay is nestled within the heart of nature, surrounded by the lush Tiunahi Jungle and the prosperous village life of the Tharu and Sonaha communities.

Guests will stay in charming mud and wood houses, reflecting the area's traditional architecture. With only a few rooms available, the homestay ensures a peaceful retreat while maintaining high standards of hygiene and sanitation. The daily rhythm of village life revolves around farming, with seasonal activities such as planting (May - June) and harvesting (September—October). Public Bus: Kathmandu to Rajapur (598 km, 16 hrs), then 8 km (20 mins) by local bus or auto to homestay.

By Air: 50-min flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, followed by a 2.5-hour drive to Rajapur, then a local bus or auto to homestay.

Private Car: Direct drive, approx. 13 hours from Kathmandu.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an adapter for plugs?

While there are different types of sockets, the majority of sockets work with European (2-round pins) and Indian (3-round pins) plugs. Please note that North American plugs require a voltage converter, as Nepal uses 220 volts.

Is smoking allowed?

No, Smoking is not allowed inside the house. However, you can smoke outside.

Is drinking allowed?

Yes, drinking is allowed. Please note that you might be charged extra for alcoholic drinks. You can buy alcohol at the local shops.
