Diary Of A Visit To Bardiya Community Homestay

Bardiya, and its famous Bardiya National Park, is one of Nepal’s finest miniatures for the cultural and the natural diversity of Nepal. Tharus are indigenous to the Bardiya region. With its unique culture, art, tradition, and way of living lives, Bardiya is home to colourful Tharu tribes. It is not a stereotype, but the Tharu people are one of the humble and friendly tribes of Nepal. They construct their huts using bamboos and plants, coating and layering them with mud and cow-dung. Everything here is so organic, so it's no wonder Tharus would call themselves the ‘Children of Nature’. Let us explore the beauty of Bardiya and the Bardiya Community. Bardiya is famous for frequently seeing the Bengal tiger in the Bardiya National Park. However, our recent visit was in the off-season for such a golden opportunity. Nevertheless, the hospitality, the fresh air (a myth in the metropolitan city where we come from), and the genuine connection with the local culture, nature, and traditional values were some of our most memorable moments.

The Bardiya Community Homestay welcomed us. We cooked with our host family, picked mangoes from the backyards, went for a jungle walk, bird-watched, enjoyed the cultural program, and ate 100% organic food three times a day. There couldn’t be a better feeling than this. We would like to share our experience through some of the photographs we took in and around Bardiya Community Homestay.

Such a wonderful host family welcomed us

Life in Bardiya is close to nature and so beautiful.

Homegrown Mangoes. Every bite tastes like a little piece of heaven.

Their settlements are mostly made of what is found in the raw Nature. (Except ‘that’ shining roof.)

‘Machan’ is what Tharu understands about the Tree House. They build it to guard their land from Wild Elephants.

Taurus are also natural born fisherwoman or fishermen.

We were welcomed by the deers for our tour of the Bardiya National Park.

Elephant, in the distance, is watching us.

We saw Rhino beating the summer heat in a little wild puddle.

Bardiya is full of Natural Beauties.
